All packed up and ready to roll - Carolyn and I outside our home in Wellington, getting ready for the adventure. 16 countries, 3 months and ?? kms - can't wait....
We are flying to Beijing as a stopover for 4 nights on the way to Europe and 10 nights in Vancouver on the way back home ( to catch up with our son Chris and Gemma.). We pick up the bike in Hamburg, near where we have friends we can stay with while getting the bike sorted, then we head to Prague and straight down to Slovenia and then Croatia ( to catch the sun and beaches) .
This is the bike that has already been shipped to Europe - it is a 2002 Honda ST1300 Pan European model with 66000 kms on the clock (imported from the UK). I picked it up on Trade Me for NZ$9500 and its in excellent condition. I've added a GPS and top box and installed 12v power ( cigarette lighter and 2 USB points) to charge the GPS, helmet headsets, cell phones, camera, netbook etc while we travel.( Why don't they invent a universal power cord? - I swear we have at least 10 different cables for charging all the equipment!!) We will be carrying a tent, sleeping bags, blow up mattresses, and all the camping equipment we need. This photo shows the bike and all the gear crammed into the crate. The bike will be unloaded at Hamburg awaiting our arrival there on 12th August.
