Well, what a magnificent place – the day started off misty and wet and so we walked around the lake taking pictures of the church on the island from every angle – even in the mist it looked fantastic
– there is a very picturesque church on a little island in the middle of the lake, a castle perched on cliffs and another church, (St Martins) in amongst trees on the edge – very very pretty – by the time we had finshed this 2 hour walk the weather had cleared so we decided to go for a ride to Bovec, an adventure town in the north much like Queenstown. Unfortunately I didn't take any maps with me and as the GPS doesn't have Slovenia loaded, we missed the turn and got stuck on an autobahn toll road that took us through a 7.8 km tunnel back into Austria – oh well, the sun was shining here so we had lunch and rode back through the tunnel - $13 each way, dammit.
After that we canned the idea of Bovec and went to Bohinj instead, another pretty lake near Lake Bled – it was nice and much like a small version of L Wanaka with a stone bridge – lots of tourists and camera everywhere - that filled in the afternoon and back we came to camp. By this time, Lake Bled was bathed in sunshine so a quick few photos just for old times sake....
At the camp there are heaps of bikers with little tents like ours all pitched together – its annoying that the ground the tents have been allocated is on a stoney area, and its like trying to put pegs into concrete – our little hammer came in handy and had to be lent to other bikers who didn't have one. The campground seems to have a lot of English here as I think all the families from the European countries are back at school now. It must be absloute madness at peak holiday time. After dinner we are having a beer/wine while I type this listening to the ubiquitous piano accordion playing good old fashioned german type songs – yeehah!!!
