Our campsite at Karlobag was right on the beach so we started the day with a swim before breakfast! That sure beats a Wellington winter morning!! The ride south from Karlobag was a beautiful sweeping road
along the coast as far as Zadar where we stopped for a drink and tried to find an internet connection. Broadband is somewhat difficult to find in Croatia – thus the last 2 entries put on together last night.
In Zadar they have created a Sea Organ - a system of pipes and whistles set under the stone steps on the waterfront which produces an amazing musical chime as the movement of the sea pushes air through the pipes. The sea was quite mellow when we were there and the sound was quite lovely … wonder what it would be like in a storm?
The ride south from Zadar to Trogir was as boring as ….. HOT, inland, boring, HOT, long, HOT …. By the time we found the campground and joined the queue for the ridiculous check in procedure (50 mins this time !) Warwick was completely fed up and ready to drive on to Split. But we are glad we stayed as we had a fabulous night in Trogir. First of all we had a swim to cool off at the camp beach ( looked like sand from the road, but alas, only white scoria stones – its funny watching people walk into the water in Croatia – everyone either has the scuba boots or sort of creep over the sharp stones) , then headed back into the town. It is a beautiful little town with lots of Romanesque buildings, narrow cobbled winding lanes, arches and gates and restaurants set in little courtyards behind old wooden doors. Along the waterfront there is a wide promenade where we sat and “people watched” for ages and 5 or 6 million dollar luxury personal yachts were moored there. All sorts of music and bands from the different bars and restaurants, and buskers playing. The only problem were the jerks in the camping ground who insisted on talking loudly at all hours, without any consideration for anyone else – I had to call out “oi” and when they turned around, go “ssshhhh” till they got the message – we have struck this with groups of Italians so far – bloody annoying.
